Visa information
As of now, Dutch and Belgian citizens and residents of 40 other countries who visit Indonesia for a holiday of up to 30 days NO longer need a ‘visa on arrival’. This arrangement only applies when arriving at and departing from the following international (air)ports:
- Soekarno Hatta, Jakarta & Juanda, Surabaya, Java
- Ngurah Rai, Denpasar, Bali
- Kualanamu, Medan & Hang Nadim, Batam, Sumatra
If you arrive in Jakarta and leave the country within 30 days via Jakarta or one of the other locations listed above, a visa on arrival is not required.
But if you arrive internationally via Yogyakarta (e.g. from Kuala Lumpur), you must buy a Visa on Arrival at Yogyakarta airport. Or, for example, if you arrive at Ngurah Rai, Denpasar, Bali, but fly on to another international destination from an airport not listed above (e.g. from Yogyakarta or Makassar), a visa on arrival is still required.
A visa is also still required for the following visits:
- Family visits,
- business visits,
- visits longer than 30 days
In these cases a Visa on Arrival is still required. It can be applied for before arriving in Indonesia at the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague, Tobias Asserlaan 8, 2517 KC Den Haag, +31 70 310 8100. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:00.
Immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) in Indonesia: Should you need to go there, keep in mind that neat clothing is appreciated. Shorts, skirts (anything above the knee), sleeveless shirts or bare midriffs are not appreciated and you may be refused entry. Also expect long processing times, and remember that Friday is an important day for Muslims, with a lot of time set aside for prayer. Better to avoid this day OR go early in the morning.
